MNN CULTURAL REPORT - HORNCRAFT IN THE SHADOW

Welcome to the bleeding edge of the style world, fashion fans. If you’re an ork or troll you’re nobody nowadays without some kind of tusk equipment.
What started as a street fashion on the streets of Seattle has gone global thanks to the adoption by Or’zet rappers.
Ork and troll tusks obviously sit proud of the lower jaw line and lower lip leading to them not being utilised in mastication, this little known fact has been the foundation of ork and troll youth bringing attention to their heritage.
Tusk adornment has become the thing of the nano.

In the beginning of this style statement by the angry youth of today, simple tusk caps and piercings where the extent of the choice available. Now the ork fashion gurus of the music world are sporting inlaid gems, enamel dying and even engraved tusks with inlaid gold. For trolls there is plenty more room for self expression. Young trolls like Corwin Steel, lead guitar of the eco thrash band Pangea, have taken to horn carving. Steel sights his inspirations as the changeling performance artist Celia Mandrake. We are reliably informed Miss Mandrake has circuitry pattern UV inlays in her horns that makes for a dazzling display on stage.

Other examples of horn art start as simple as sanding smooth through geometric patterns/inlays, to as intricate as a depiction of DaVinci’s Last supper showcased at the UCAS national body art exhibit in New York.

This is Mariela Vogue reporting from MNN.

Scan this. I was the first trog in the plex to have my tusks capped. Before I knew it every drekheel and charlatan was copying me. Frag even got breeders getting tusks to rip my style. So I change to gold inlays, fraggers rip that too. Try being an individual with every slitch copying you.

Hard being a trendsetter, eh?

Just FYI for people in "The Business", don't forget that this kind of stuff falls under the police heading of "Identifiable Markings", just like Tattoos, Scars, and Cyberwear.

Saw one Troll crying in the street last week, actually, clutching a broken-off bit of horn. Some excellent scrimshaw work had been done on it, but was now in two pieces.

He had to headbutt a Humanis punk to get him to back off, and, well, we know how thick skulled Humanis is...

It looks all daring and crap - but Trolls get a new set of teeth every few years. Goblin rap has taken to tusk adornment because it's actually extremely temporary - we aren't talking about getting an arm replaced or even a tattoo. People get their tusks done all kinds of crazy ways and it just... comes off.

Although I do know a man who keeps all his old horns and teeth - quite a collection and there's some marvelous artwork on some.

Interesting "theory". Though you seem neither to know any Homo sapien ingentis/robustus personaly or have a medical qualification to speak of.
Like most homo sapiens they have a total of two sets of teeth. Troll horns however do have a small regenartive process similar to bone. However unlike fully replacing animal horns, Homo sapien ingentis sport a single set for life.

Gabriel, that tirade is contrary to medical literature I have read.

(OOC: SR2, p. 38 - Trolls continuously grow teeth throughout their lives).

I call shenanigans on j.j.

I guarantee he was not the first. One of my buds' great-grands was a transhumanist back at the turn of the century. Freaky old (hu)man had skull mounts installed to wear horns, had half his teeth replaced with studs so he can swap out his teeth, and the ones he still had were laser etched. Plus a crapload of tats.

Not even the first trog, since my bud's grand-dad had tusk scrimshaw.

Actually, just reminded me. Back in Winnipeg, a few Body Mod shops were closed down for "Implanting Weaponry" in Trolls.

They had their horns sharpened.

There was a minor hullaballo about things, but after a few gangers performed a murder or five with said weapons, it quietened down right quick.

It can be done legally, but a weapon's permit is required. That's UCAS Law now.

I had a good friend who got one of those neon-lighted mods on his horns... I told him to cover them up, but the fool didn't listen. Those things are as bad a cigarettes in the field - visible in the dark from klick away.
